16 Jan - Big Waves

The North Shore was hit by a large swell on the 16th. Waves were forecast in the high 20s and a following swell a few days later almost produced an "Eddie". We made our way through the traffic to the North Shore to check it out.

The rains of the previous week made the whole ocean chocolate milk colored and the waves were pretty tossed up, but still very impressive.

We drove slowly by Waimea Bay and managed to stop on one of the overlooks for a bit. Waves were pretty infrequent, but we did see a couple of rides.

We spent most of our time at our favorite summer snorkel spots - Shark's Cover and Three Tables. You could get close to the water and got a better sense of the wave heights which were probably in the 15-20 ft range.

Hard to discern wave height in the pictures and at the risk of being a little repetitious I'll just throw a bunch of pictures in for possible effect.

For reference, the lava rock wall the wave is breaking on is about 8 - 10 ft tall
